🥾 Scenic Hike
Marble cliffs, a turquoise river and cliff-cut trails, and barely known outside Taiwan.
Best time: October–May (avoid typhoon season)
Rockfall is a real risk in the gorge, especially after earthquakes and heavy rain. Stick to trails that are officially open, and never go past a closure sign. Before you go, check your insurance.

This is legitimately one of the best cycling routes in the world. The road hugs the coast, the tunnels have pedestrian paths, and there are hot spring detours every 20km.

Look up 'Jiufen at night' and you'll wonder why you've never heard of it. It feels like walking into an animated film. The cliff-side ocean views from the top are a 10.

Fares usually jump in July and August, when the crowds come. March, April, October and November are the sweet spot: good weather without peak prices.
