Effective and last updated

WanderRank is free, and I'd like to keep it that way. Here is exactly how it makes money, so you can weigh my recommendations with that in mind.

The short version

  • Some links are affiliate or referral links. If you book or buy through them, I may earn a commission or bonus, at no extra cost to you.
  • As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
  • Rankings are never paid for. The scoring engine doesn't know which links earn money.
  • I only recommend things I use or would use.
  • You'll see a short note next to each group of partner links, not just on this page.

How WanderRank makes money

Two ways: affiliate and referral links, and optional tips. When you click an affiliate or referral link and then book, buy or get approved, the partner may pay me a commission or a bonus. It costs you nothing extra. Plenty of links on the site earn nothing at all, like free apps and plain links to booking sites.

Rankings are never paid for

No partner can pay to rank a destination. The scoring engine that builds your ranking takes no affiliate input: it doesn't know which places have partner links or which links earn money. Whether a link pays me never moves a place up or down. How scoring works explains what does.

What I recommend

I only recommend things I use or would use. No product gets a spot on the site just because its company is a partner, and what I write about a product is my own opinion, not the company's.

Every partner, by name

  • Amazon (Amazon Associates)

Travel gear I recommend, on Travel Stack, How I Travel and Know Before You Go. The links go to the product on Amazon. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Capital One (referral links)

The Capital One Venture X and Capital One Savor cards, on Travel Stack, How I Travel and destination pages. If you're approved for a card through my referral link, Capital One may pay me a referral bonus.

  • Holafly (through Impact)

eSIM data plans. I may earn a commission on plans bought through my link.

  • IMG (through Impact)

Travel medical insurance, on Know Before You Go. I may earn a commission if you buy a plan through my link.

Links to Hostelworld, Airalo, Rome2Rio, 12Go, FlixBus, Omio, Busbud and Bolt are plain links that earn nothing for now. If one of them starts earning, its links are disclosed and marked the same way as the ones above.

Amazon

WanderRank is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

I don't show Amazon prices on WanderRank, because they change and I'd rather you see the real one on Amazon.

Capital One referral links

The Capital One links are my personal referral links, not ads from Capital One. What I write about the cards is my own experience and opinion. Card benefits on WanderRank were checked September 2026. Rates, fees and terms come from Capital One and can change, so check Capital One's current page for the Venture X or the Savor card before you apply. Approval is up to Capital One.

Travel insurance

I'm not an insurance agent or broker, and nothing on WanderRank is insurance advice. I just share what I do: I don't always buy travel insurance, but when I'm doing something sketchy I pick up a cheap medical-only plan through IMG, using the affiliate link on Know Before You Go. Whether you need insurance, and which policy, is your call. Read the policy wording, especially the exclusions, before you buy, and ask the insurer if you're not sure what it covers.

Tips

You can leave an optional tip through Venmo, or by card through Stripe when card tip links are switched on. Tips are voluntary support, not a purchase, and they never affect rankings. See Refunds and Tips.

How partner links are marked

  • A short note sits next to each group of affiliate or referral links, saying what they are.
  • The same one-line disclosure, with Amazon's statement, is in the footer of every page.
  • In the page code, earning links carry rel="sponsored", which tells search engines they're paid links.
